Road Safety: A priority for car manufacturers

For several years now, car manufacturers have been struggling to improve safety on the road, for the occupants of their vehicles as well as for the other road users (pedestrians, cyclists, etc.).

I have recently translated a text on « human first program » launched by Renault. While translating this Swiss German text into Swiss French, I learnt that the French car manufacturer has been collaborating with firefighters since 2010 and has trained more than 5,000 people during this time for them to intervene faster and safer on crashed vehicles. The goal: save even more lives.

As part of this partnership, Renault has developed the QRescue. This QR Code located on the windscreen allows the rescue team to get all the main technical specifications on the vehicle with one simple scan. This information is essential for a safe handling of electric or hybrid vehicles.

The SD Switch is another useful tool developed in cooperation between Renault and the firefighters. Acting like a high-voltage fuse, it instantly disconnects the high-voltage battery from the vehicle electric system. The way is now clear for a safe rescue.

In a coming article, I will also tell you about ADAS, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems – technological gems that make driving easier and safer.
